A Yacht Broker is responsible for facilitating the buying, selling, and chartering of yachts on behalf of clients. This role requires strong sales skills, extensive knowledge of the yachting industry, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and industry professionals. The Yacht Broker will guide clients through the entire process of purchasing or chartering a yacht, from initial consultation to closing the deal.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Consultation: Meet with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and budget for buying, selling, or chartering yachts. Provide expert advice and recommendations based on their requirements.
  • Market Research: Conduct thorough market research to stay updated on current yacht listings, market trends, and pricing. Provide clients with accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Listing Management: Manage listings of yachts for sale or charter. Ensure that all listings are detailed, accurate, and appealing to potential buyers or charter clients.
  • Sales and Negotiation: Handle negotiations between buyers and sellers to achieve favorable terms for all parties. Prepare and present offers, counteroffers, and contracts.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote yacht listings. Utilize online platforms, social media, yacht shows, and networking events to attract potential clients.
  • Documentation: Oversee the preparation and execution of all necessary documentation for yacht transactions, including contracts, bills of sale, and registration papers. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business. Provide ongoing support and follow-up after transactions are completed.
  • Network Building: Establish and maintain a network of contacts within the yachting industry, including yacht builders, marinas, surveyors, and other brokers.
  • Inspection and Sea Trials: Coordinate and attend yacht inspections and sea trials with clients. Provide professional guidance and feedback during these evaluations.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional service to clients, addressing any questions or concerns promptly and professionally.

Qualifications:

A Charter Yacht Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations, management, and marketing of charter yachts. This role requires a combination of strong administrative skills, excellent customer service, and an in-depth understanding of the yachting industry. The Charter Yacht Manager will coordinate with yacht owners, clients, and crew to ensure a seamless and enjoyable charter experience.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Management: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs are met before, during, and after the charter. This includes handling inquiries, bookings, and follow-up communications.
  • Charter Coordination: Plan and coordinate charter itineraries, provisioning, and activities according to client preferences. Liaise with yacht captains and crew to ensure all arrangements are in place.
  • Yacht Operations: Oversee the maintenance and readiness of the yacht, ensuring it meets safety standards and is in optimal condition for charters.
  • Marketing and Sales: Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract new clients. Manage listings on charter websites, social media, and other promotional platforms.
  • Financial Management: Handle budgeting, invoicing, and financial reporting for charter activities. Ensure timely payments and manage expenses.

Our yacht managers oversee all aspects of the business, commercial and marine operations for a number of yachts, ensuring that all contracted services are delivered to meet the client’s expectations.

 

Functional Responsibilities 

  • Own the business and commercial relationship for Yacht Management with the Owner (or their representative): principal point of contact; assess the owner’s requirements and find ways of delivering services; provide guidance as requested.
  • Guide and support each yacht Captain to deliver safe, reliable and cost effective yacht operations in accordance with Company standards and with support from other parts of the Yacht Management team.
  • Be the principal point of contact within Empire Yachting for the yachts under their management – mainly Brokers & Charter managers.
  • Facilitate arrangements with Corporate Service Providers, Fiscal Agents and Insurers.
  • Monitor and influence the financial performance of each yacht against budget: approve expenditure; ensure funds are held to cover anticipated liabilities; approve narrative explanations to accompany periodic reports to the owner; assess the value for money received for major items of expenditure.
  • Prepare a monthly operational report on the performance of each yacht for submission to the Owner
  • Manage all aspects of each yachts business, commercial and marine operation.

Corporate Responsibilities 

  • Participate in the Emergency Response Team. This will include 24/7 duty callout for at least one month per year.
  • Be involved in the strategic development of yacht management and the Company’s industry presence Represent the Company at boat shows and other trade events or meetings.
  • Identify new business opportunities for yacht management and cross-selling other Burgess services. Work with the Business Development Manager to convert these to profit.
  • Any other task reasonably requested.

Personal attributes and qualifications

Essential qualification 

Either of the below:

  • STCW 11/2 Certificate of Competency (Master Unlimited); or
  • STCW 111/2 Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer Unlimited); or
  • STCW 11/2 Certificate of Competency (Master Yachts) together with at least 2 yrs. in command; or
  • STCW 111/2 Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer Y1) together with 2 yrs. service as Chief Engineer; or
  • EQF1 Level 6 education or professional qualification in a Marine discipline, together with 5 yrs. experience in shipping or yachting.

Essential experience 

  • Satisfactory demonstration of proficiency in Large Yacht Management; or
  • Satisfactory completion of the Company’s ‘Yacht Manager under training programme’.

Desirable qualifications 

  • ISM lead auditor, Designated Person Ashore, Company Security Officer

Experience and ability

The Yacht Maintenance Team is responsible for the upkeep, cleaning, and overall maintenance of the yacht’s interior and exterior. This role ensures that the yacht is always in top condition, adhering to safety and operational standards. The Yacht Maintenance Manager will maintain detailed records of maintenance work, manage inventory, and schedule future maintenance appointments to ensure the yacht operates efficiently and safely.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning and Upkeep: Perform thorough cleaning of the yacht’s interior and exterior, including decks, cabins, galley, and common areas. Ensure all areas are spotless and well-maintained.
  • Maintenance Scheduling: Schedule and perform regular maintenance tasks such as engine checks, plumbing repairs, electrical systems, and other essential yacht systems. Maintain a detailed log of all maintenance activities.
  • Inventory Management: Keep an up-to-date inventory of all supplies, spare parts, and equipment. Ensure that necessary items are stocked and reorder supplies as needed.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including dates, tasks performed, and parts used. Document any issues and resolutions.
  • Future Planning: Plan and schedule future maintenance appointments, ensuring that all systems are serviced at appropriate intervals to prevent breakdowns and ensure smooth operations.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance work adheres to safety standards and regulations. Conduct regular safety checks and drills as required.
  • Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for specialized maintenance or repairs. Oversee the work to ensure it meets quality standards.
  • Emergency Repairs: Respond promptly to any maintenance emergencies or issues that arise, ensuring minimal disruption to yacht operations.
  • Team Supervision: Supervise and train maintenance staff, ensuring that all team members are knowledgeable and capable of performing their duties effectively.
